Abtrac pricing starts at $47 a month for one user, then $22 per user for users 2 to 10, $12 for users 11 to 25, $8 for users 26 to 50 and $3.25 beyond that. GST, add-ons and one-off setup fees sit on top.
That is the short answer to “how much does Abtrac cost?”, taken from Abtrac’s own pricing page in October 2026. The longer answer matters more, because the monthly licence is only one line in what your firm will really pay.
This guide breaks down the full Abtrac pricing picture, gives you an honest Abtrac review drawn from public user reviews, and shows what a 10, 25 and 50 person firm can expect to spend. Full disclosure: we build Drum, a competing platform. We’ll show you where Abtrac comes out ahead on price, because it does.
What Abtrac Pricing Includes (and What It Doesn’t)
Ever tried to price software and found three different numbers on three different sites? Abtrac is simpler than most. It sells one plan with every core feature, and its pricing page states there are “no standard, professional, or enterprise plans.”
The per-user tiers. You pay $47 a month for the first user. Each extra user then costs less as your team grows, in bands of 2 to 10, 11 to 25, 26 to 50 and 51 plus. Every licensed person counts, including part-time staff, students and contractors. Capterra lists the starting price as A$47 per month, and Software Advice Australia shows the same AU$47 figure.
The page words the bands as “first 2 to 10 users” and “next 11 to 25”, so the estimates below treat them as stepped: each rate applies only to the users inside its band. Confirm that reading in your quote.
The add-on modules. Three optional modules cost extra each month:
- Accounts link (the Xero or MYOB connection): $20 a month
- Debtor management: $45 a month
- Maps: $15 a month
Most firms will want the accounts link. Without it, your invoices don’t flow into Xero or MYOB on their own.
One-off setup costs. Here the published numbers stop. Abtrac’s FAQ says “there will be some set up fees,” and its onboarding page states that “Implementation and Training is an additional, one-time cost.” Data migration also carries “a fee for each migration,” estimated in your cost proposal and confirmed once Abtrac sees a sample of your data. None of these amounts are published.
Cloud, not on-premise. Today’s product, often called Abtrac Online (you log in at abtraconline.com), is hosted on Microsoft Azure. Abtrac says it has been cloud based since 2014, and its pricing page does not offer an on-premise option. If your firm still runs an older desktop install, ask Abtrac directly how that is priced.
Terms and billing. There is no fixed-term contract. You pay monthly by Visa or Mastercard with a 1.5% surcharge, and you can trial Abtrac Online free for 30 days.
So the licence is clear. The question is whether the product earns it.
Abtrac Review: Where It Shines and Where It Drags
A fair Abtrac review starts with its age. Software Advice lists Abtrac as founded in 1990 and based in Auckland. That is more than 30 years of building for project-based consultancies, which few rivals can match.
Strength: built for your kind of firm. Abtrac’s features page names architects, consulting engineers, land surveyors, quantity surveyors and town planners as its core users. It covers time, fees, WIP, job costs, invoices and proposals, and offers “close to 100 ready to roll reports and analysis screens.”
Strength: support and accounting links. Support is the loudest theme in reviews. Abtrac scores 4.5 out of 5 from 30 reviews on Capterra, with 4.8 for customer service. One reviewer calls the support “exceptional.” Its accounts link sends invoices, credit notes and contacts to Xero and pulls payment updates and bills back, as its Xero guide explains.
Weakness: it looks and feels dated. The same Capterra reviews flag the interface. One user calls it “very old school in its’ appearance.” Abtrac is working on this. Its August 2026 update moved the menu to a left sidebar and added quick actions and an AI assistant. Test the current version before you judge it on old screenshots.
Weakness: slow screens and a learning curve. Some reviewers report the system feels slow when moving between modules or running reports, and a few mention lost saves. Another writes that “there’s definitely a learning curve, especially for new users.” Finding the right report among 100 can also be tricky.
Why do these weaknesses matter so much? Because they shrink how much your team uses the system. Firms that have moved to Drum tell us the same story: hard screens lead to late timesheets, and late timesheets lead to reports nobody trusts. One 45-person civil engineering firm ended up using Abtrac mainly as a project register and time tracker, with budgets and variations in spreadsheets. We cover that firm’s story in our Abtrac alternative guide.

What Abtrac Costs a 10, 25 and 50 Person Firm
So how much does Abtrac cost for a firm your size? Here is how Abtrac pricing plays out at three sizes, checked in October 2026. Abtrac figures assume the stepped-band reading above and include the $20 accounts link. Drum is $225 AUD a month for your first five seats, then $45 per extra seat, with every feature included. All figures exclude GST.
| Firm size | Abtrac licence + accounts link (est.) | Abtrac one-off setup | Drum subscription | Drum add-ons |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10 staff | $265/month | On request | $450/month | None, all features included |
| 25 staff | $445/month | On request | $1,125/month | None, all features included |
| 50 staff | $645/month | On request | $2,250/month | None, all features included |
Prices checked October 2026 from abtrac.com/pricing and Drum’s price list. Abtrac totals are our estimate from its published tiers. Add $45 a month for debtor management or $15 for maps.
On published Abtrac pricing alone, the monthly licence is cheaper at every size. That is not a typo, and you should weigh it.
What the table can’t show. Your real cost goes beyond Abtrac pricing on the website. It includes setup, data migration, training, the fee Abtrac charges for a full data export, and the hours your team spends around the software. Picture a 25-person firm where each project manager rebuilds WIP in Excel for half a day at month-end. That labour costs more than the gap between the two subscriptions. (This is an illustration, not a measured result.)
What Drum’s price buys. Drum is a Professional Services Automation (PSA) platform that runs the full commercial lifecycle in one place: enquiry, fee proposal, project, time, WIP and invoice. You get a sales pipeline, live project financials, resource planning and a month-end claim run that starts a draft for every live job with WIP. Invoices sync two ways with Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks.
Other tools in this space price differently again. Projectworks starts from $39 AUD per user and Scoro from $26 USD per user, while Deltek and Synergy quote on request. Per-user models look cheap for small teams but climb as you hire.
What to ask for in an Abtrac pricing quote. Get these in writing before you sign:
- Your exact monthly licence for your headcount, and confirmation of how the bands are applied.
- Which add-ons you need, and whether the accounts link covers both Xero and MYOB.
- The one-off implementation and training cost, itemised.
- The data migration fee from your current system, and what happens if issues arise.
- The fee for a full data export if you ever leave.
- How contractors and part-time staff are counted.
- Whether any older desktop licence changes price on moving to Abtrac Online.
Ask Drum the same questions. A fair comparison uses the same list for every vendor.
Who Abtrac Suits, and When to Look Elsewhere
So who gets good value from Abtrac pricing?
Abtrac suits firms that already use it well. If your team enters time daily, your reports answer your directors’ questions and month-end runs without side spreadsheets, stay put. Abtrac pricing at 26 plus staff is hard to beat, and its support has a strong record.
It also suits small firms on a tight budget. At ten users, the licence costs a little over half of Drum’s. If you need time, fees and invoicing and little else, that saving is real.
Look elsewhere when the workarounds pile up. If proposals live in one spreadsheet, variations in email and WIP in Excel, you are paying for a system and then paying again in staff hours. That is when a platform built around one source of truth earns its higher licence. If you’re weighing that trade-off, book a demo and run one of your own jobs through Drum.

Is Abtrac Pricing Worth It for Your Firm?
This Abtrac review found a mature, well-supported tool with a low monthly licence. Its weak points are the ones reviewers repeat: a dated feel, slow screens for some users and a learning curve that can stall adoption. Setup and migration fees are not published, so the true first-year figure only appears once you request a quote.
Run the numbers on both the licence and your team’s time. If the cheaper system still leaves your directors waiting on month-end spreadsheets, the saving is smaller than it looks.
